Description

Renesas Mobile Europe, producer of wireless communication equipment, has announced the closure of its units in Finland with 808 layoffs. The company has concluded negotiations with employee representatives.

Renesas Electronics bought mobile phone maker Nokia's wireless modem unit in 2010. Due to financial difficulties the parent company has tried to sell the Finnish units. In the absence of a buyer, the company has decided to close them. Some 566 layoffs will occur in Oulu. There will be 94 layoffs in Salo, 82 in Helsinki and 66 in Tampere.
