Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swiss manufacturer of mobile platforms ST-Ericsson is to reduce its headcount by 500 in Lund, Sweden. Negotiations with trade unions are completed and it has been agreed that 300 employees and 200 consultants will be made redundant.
Some of the redundant workers may be offered new positions at a new corporation that is currently being discussed by Ericsson and one or two unknown third parties. A total of 800 employees will continue working for ST Ericsson in Lund.
As of June 2013, there is no information about when the employment adjustments will start taking effect or when they will be implemented by.
