Description

Marine Harvest VAP Europe, part of the Norwegian seafood company Marine Harvest Worldwide, has announced plans to cut 417 jobs in France.

In the framework of a large restructuring plan, the company has announced the closure of 2 sites in France by the end of March 2014 (in Poullaouen with the loss of 188 permanent jobs and 100 temporary ones and in Châteaugiron with the loss of 126 permanent jobs and the loss of 50 temporary ones). Additionally, 17 administrative jobs are to be lost in the site of Landivisau; however 64 employees from the Poullaouen site will have the chance to be reemployed there. For another site in France (Challans) is reported that the company is seeking for a buyer.

he management of the company blames the measures on the high costs of raw material and the pressure in the retail prices. There is also a possibility that the production of the Poullaouen site to be relocated in Poland. The company also announced a 2-year investment programme of 8 million euro for the modernization of the Landivisau site.
