Description

On 14 May 2013, ISD Częstochowa steel mill announced a voluntary dismissal programme affecting 1,500 people by the end of June 2013. The programme will be introduced on 16 May 2013.

Jacek Łęski, spokeperson of the steel mill, revealed that workers who will apply to voluntary redundancy within one week after the meeting with the programme’s consultant will receive a severance pay equal to 19 months’ wages. Workers who will join the programme later will receive severance pay equal to 14 months’ wages.

It is reported the dismissals are associated with the economic crisis and deterioration of the outlook in the steel industry sector.

The bilateral agreement between ISD and local trade unions (signed in 2005 after the acquisition of the steel mill) guarantees employment up to 2015 for all staff. According to the local trade unions the announced voluntary redundancy programme is the only legal way to reduce the employment in the steel mill.
