Description

Scottish coal has announced that it has made 590 redundancies after it went into administration.  The organisation is one of Scotlands largest coal mining companies with six open cast mines in East Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and Fife, all of which have stopped production.  A drop in the price of coal and an increase in operational costs were blamed for the job losses. Only 142 employees have been retained by administrators KPMG.
