Description

Orion Diagnostica, a producer of diagnostic tests, has announced redundancies of up to 80 employees in Finland. The company has started negotiations with employee representatives on the cuts. Orion Diagnostica is a subsidiary of pharmaceutical company Orion and has about 340 employees.

The company is considering closing its factory in Turku and changing employment terms as well as dismissing up to 80 persons. Orion states that it wants to reduce the number of products and improve its profitability and competitiveness.

Union representatives criticized Orion's plans, referring to the company's good financial results. A walkout took place two days after the company announced the redundancies. For previously reported restructurings affecting Orion Group  see Orion-FI2009 and Orion-FI2003.

Updated, 03-06-2013: Orion Diagnostica has concluded negotiations and confirmed 80 redundancies, of which 60 will be direct dismissals and the remaining 20 will be carried out through natural wastage and discontinuation of temporary positions. The closure of the Turku plant results in 40 redundancies.
