Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 18 March 2013, the management of the paper manufacturer Papeteries de Condat (420 employees) has announced to its unions a restructuring plan that will affect 154 positions. The company that is a subsidiary of Lecta Group wants to stop a production line that employs 144 workers and will not replace 10 employees that retire. The group has already cut some positions on this line two years ago, highlights the union FO. According the union CGT, this decision results from an internal competition between the French site and the Spanish site of San-Juan. The management has announced to stop the line by the end of June.
