Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
AHT Cooling Systems, a Styrian company specialised in the production of commercial freezers, is to expand its workforce by 170 employees by May 2013.
The company has invested €14 million in a new production hall. This is to develop a new market segment for the production of refrigerated display cases for food retail stores. Some 100 new workers have already been hired in the course of the last few months. Now that the construction of the new production hall is basically finished, some 70 additional employees will be hired within the next three months.
The company has increased its turnover in 2012 by some € 50 million Euros to a total of € 292 million. AHT is one of the world leaders for freezers; it produces more than 300,000 pieces annually. Substantial additional growth is expected with the entry into the new market segment.
