On 22 January 2013, automotive supplier Benteler announced plans to reduce its European workforce by 1,800 employees to reduce its costs.
According to a company spokesperson, Benteler will reduce staff mainly at its purchasing and administrative units – not at its production units. Paderborn, Bentler’s largest production plant, will be most severely affected by the job reductions. No concrete numbers have been announced yet, as the company will enter discussions with employee representatives during the coming weeks.
Benteler, a family-run business with headquarters in Salzburg, Austria, currently employs around 22,000 staff and operates across 38 countries.
