Description
German automotive supplier Benteler intends to cut 500 positions in Germany and another 1,300 internationally - most of these in Europe. Benteler employs a global workforce of 22,000. It is reported that the management claims these measures are due to strong global competition.
In Germany, the job cuts will affect administrative, marketing and research/development units. Manufacturing jobs are set to stay. Negotiations with the works council have not started yet, therefore the timeline of restructuring is not yet known.
Update 03-05-2013: Benteler clarified its plans and announced that in its section "OWL", 399 jobs will be cut; 310 of them are now located at its main site in Paderborn (North Rhine-Westfalia). Additionally, it is reported that the majority of the job cuts will be implemented in a socially acceptable way.
