Description
The Flemish public broadcaster VRT based in Brussels announced its intention to cut 120 jobs by 2015, at a rate of 40 per year. VRT claims that most of the job cuts will be achieved by natural attrition.
According to the management the decision was based on the need to save money by reducing costs. The unions highlight that the company already cut 10% of the workforce in 2010, and it is now cutting an additional 5%, which according to their statements will hinder the production of quality programmes. They consider unacceptable that VRT has to make budget savings on the expense of the employees, while programmes could be produced, instead of bought from third-party broadcasters.
