Description

Uppsala University Hospital (Akademiska sjukhuset), Sweden's oldest university hospital, has announced reductions amounting to 325 jobs as part of a savings program of 220 million SEK (€ 25 million). The hospital management believes that the reductions will be implemented by natural attrition. Included in the savings plan is also a marginal reduction in the number of hospital beds.

In March 2012, a plan to save 350 million SEK (41 million €) during 2012 and 2013 was announced, including letting go of 300 employees. However, reductions have not been sufficient so far, leading to new layoffs. The saving plans are part of a cost reduction program running its third year. The hospital is owned by the Uppsala County Council.

A risk analysis of the savings plan has already been initiated and negotiations are to begin shortly. The formal decisions will be made in February 2013. As of November 2012 there is no information about when the reductions will be implemented by.
