European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Alitalia, the Italian airline company, is to cut 690 jobs. In particular, the job-cuts should affect the cabin crew staff (300), the ground crew staff (300) and the maintenance staff (90).
The company has announced the plan in an effort to cope with the negative implications of the economic crisis.
The company envisages the recourse to the Wage Guarantee Fund schemes for the redundant workers. Trade unions have disagreed with the company’s decision, announcing protest actions.
At the end of October, the company decided to suspend the lay-offs and to start some meetings with the trade unions, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Labour, in order to find alternative measures to job-cuts.
Alitalia has around 14,300 employees.
