Description
State-owned Apoteket, distributor of pharmaceutical products, has announced that it is to cut 220 jobs. The reason behind the downsizing is lost contract tenders for the supply of medical products for inpatient care in a number of county councils earlier this year. Due to price pressures and reduced content, the value of the signed contracts is considerably less than previous contracts. As a consequence, a decision has been made to close down five of the currently seven dose dispensingpharmacies.
It is not yet known when the measure will be implemented by or which pharmacies will be affected by the reduction, but it is primarily administrative staff that will be made redundant.
Apoteket had approximately 4,600 employees and 365 pharmacies, including franchises, at the end of 2011.
