Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Austrian confectionary manufacturer Manner is to expand its main factory in Vienna by 2015, increasing its workforce of currently 360 by 60 additional employees. Besides expanding its factory, the company will also build a new office building, a logistics centre, a loading zone and an underground parking garage in Vienna.
Building work has already commenced in August and hiring will commence.
As from 2016, the confectionary will be produced in Vienna only, the company's factory in Perg, Upper Austria, will be obsolete. Some 90 employees will be concerned by this closure; however, it is expected that they will be taken over by a company which will buy the premises and operate in the food sector.
