Poste Italiane, the Italian postal services provider, has announced the closure of 83 branches in Lombardy, with the consequent loss of 1,000 jobs.
According to the trade unions the restructuring plan will be implemented in all the country, with around 10,000 jobs being cut. The company has not yet announced the number of jobs to be cut at national level yet.
In Italy Poste Italiane has around 147,000 employees and around 14,000 branches; in Lombardy it employs around 21,000 people and around 2,000 branches.
The timeline for the restructuring is yet to be announced.
