Description
MTV Media, a Finnish media company owned by Swedish Bonnier, has announced redundancies of up to 80 full-time equivalents. The company is starting negotiations with employee representatives.
MTV, not to be confused with its international music namesake, was a pioneer in Finnish commercial broadcasting. It currently operates TV and radio channels as well as network services. The lay-off negotiations will impact its whole personnel with the exception of Radio Nova channel. The company announced that it needs to restructure in order to meet upcoming challenges in the media business.
MTV's union has criticised the redundancies as "unfair" and the parent company Bonnier for "unfair expectations". It has further noted that the announcement is imprecise and that it wants further explanations for the proposed cuts.
