On 21 July 2012, Wrocław Local Government announced plans to reduce employment in the local schools by 300 jobs. The employment status of another 300 teachers is expected to be changed as they will be employed on a part-time basis.
The employment reduction in education is due to the "baby bust" phenomenon and the related necessity for public expenditure cuts. Wrocław Local Government currently employs over 8,000 teachers.
Local governments across Poland dismiss teachers and other employees working in the education sector: about 7,500 Polish teachers will lose their jobs in 2012, and about 15,000 of them will start to be part-time employees.
