Description

Malmö-based ship operator Finnlines Ship Management announced dismissals of 200 employees and plans to cut further 100 jobs in Sweden.

The dismissed Swedish employees will be replaced by Finnish workers. The reason for the restructuring is that the Finnish tax rules are more favourable than the Swedish. In the Finnish shipping industry taxes are calculated based on a ship's size and loading capacity, while the Swedish ship owners are burdened with a much heavier tax - based on sales.

The exact timeline for the restructuring is yet to be announced.
