Description

Delphi, a multinational manufacturer of vehicle cables, announced plans to dismiss at least 300 workers of its site in Castelo Branco, Portugal, by the end of June 2012. The jobs will be cut across different units through the process of collective dismissals.

The company representatives explain this measure is a result of the current situation in the automobile industry.

According to the trade union, the process will affect mostly workers from the cable assembly line as well as from the wires cutting section. The cuts will affected mostly non-permanent workers, however, according to the trade union, the dismissals may include also some workers with 8 years of seniority in the company.

The trade union requested a meeting with the Delphi administration to discuss this situation in detail. Delphi is one of the biggest employers in the district.
