Description
In November 2010, Omsa (Golden Lady), an Italian manufacturer of underwear and socks for women, announced the closure of its plant located in Faenza (in the province of Ravenna), with the loss of 340 jobs (see here).
After two years of negotiations, on 12 March 2012, an agreement on the reindustrialization of the Omsa site was signed by Golden Lady, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Emilia Romagna Region, the Province of Ravenna, the municipality of Faenza, the trade unions and Atl, i.e. the company will buy the Omsa plant.
Atl is a furniture manufacturer which operates in Forlì. After the reorganisation process of the Omsa site, Atl will relocate the production of sofas that is currently located at two plants in the province of Forlì. The new Atl plant in Faenza should be operative in September 2012.
Atl will hire 120 workers who were previously employed by Omsa (beyond the workers who are employed in the Atl plants located in the province of Forlì). The agreement envisages training programs for the 120 ex-Omsa workers; the courses will be supported and organised by local authorities (the province of Ravenna and the Emilia Romagna Region). Moreover at the Omsa site Golden Lady will open a shop. For this commercial activity it should hire around 15 ex-Omsa workers.
The local authorities, the Ministry of Economic Development, the trade unions and Golden Lady have planned other meetings in the next months in order to find adequate solutions of re-employment for around 120 workers who will not employed by Atl.
