Description

Animex, a producer of meat and poultry products, announced plans to cut 230 jobs at the unit in Morliny near Ostróda in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. The restructuring programme will be implemented by the end of March 2012.

The company is to shut down a beef slaughterhouse and processing line due to weakened demand for beef products. It is also reported that the company plans to further develop the production of pork and poultry products.

Currently, Animex and the local trade unions are in negotiations about the conditions of the redundancies. Animex will cooperate with the Poviat Employment Agency and the local authorities and announced to be willing to help redundant workers in finding a new job.

The meat plant in Morliny was acquired by Animex in 2005. Today, the unit employs 1,036 people. Animex is part of the Smithfiled Group, a global food company.
