Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 December 2011, footwear manufacturer Protektor announced plans to shut down the unit in Lublin and dismiss all 144 employees. The company assured that all redundant workers will receive a severance pay equal to 6 months' wage. Still, employees and local trade unions protested against the decision on the closure as well as against the lack of collective bargaining throughout the process. Moreover, the local trade unions reveald that they have been forbidden to enter the factory.
