Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hilton Worldwide, the multi-national hospitality company based in the USA, will create more than 8500 jobs in Europe (including Turkey and Russia).
Hilton Worldwide is currently developing more than 110 hotels in the region, focusing on strategic growth markets: the UK, Germany, Poland, Russia and Turkey. The company says that an additional 2500 jobs will be safeguarded when existing hotels are converted to Hilton Worldwide brands.
In the UK, 1500 new jobs will be created, with the first new hotel opening in the last quarter of 2011. 400 new positions will open up in Germany and 750 are to be filled in Poland. In Russia, 3000 new roles will be created, while 800 will become available in Turkey.
The corporation has announced its support for schemes to bridge youth unemployment - for instance, engaging with the UK government's Get Britain Working campaign.
