Description

The scooter and motorbike manufacturer Peugeot Scooter has announced the closure of its motor production plant in Dannemarie (140 employees), Alsace and job cuts in a second plant of Mandeure (100 employees on a total of 650 employees), Doubs.

Internal mobility will be open to 40 of the employees of Dannemarie in order to enable them to join the plant of Mandeure, and within car factories if the group PSA Peugeot-Citro├źn, for the other employees. External mobility will also be proposed.

The management explained its decision for the cuts by a strong decrease of the European demand. 1.25 million Scooters were sold in 2007 against only 800,000 in 2011. Additionally, Peugeot Scooter has to make face to a new regulation in France requiring to pass seven hours of training, which cost 300 Euros, to be allowed to drive a motorbike with over 125 cm3 cylinder capacity. It is reported that parts of the production and research and development could be outsourced to subcontractors and Peugeot Scooter's plant in China.
