Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On October 17th, 2011 Solland Solar announced that it will cut 90 out of 280 jobs. In the future, the firm will concentrate on the production of solar panels and not any longer on the production of solar cells. Background is the excess capacity in the production of solar cells worldwide, resulting in a price drop of 50% over the past year.
It is reported that a foreign take-over of Solland Solar is expected in the near future.
UPDATE, 17 January 2012: A further 100 job losses were announced at Solland Solar's Heerlen plant in January 2012.
