Description

As announced on December 12, 2011, German Energy Provider Eon will cut 6,000 jobs in Germany due to denuclearization and weak gas sales. In November Eon announced internal restructuring plans concerning sites in Düsseldorf, Essen, Munich and Hannover.

On 26 October Eon had already announced to cut 450 jobs at the company's headquarters in Düsseldorf. 220 employees will be transferred to other departments and a total of 230 will lose their job. In Bavaria, 200 to 250 additional jobs will be cut, as stated on October 12, 2012. In total, Eon employs 2500 people at 19 sites in Bavaria.

The timeframe of the, now much larger, restructuring plan is not yet known, but the management wants to implement the measures as soon as possible.

Massive worldwide restructuring plans were announced by EON several months ago. At that point, precise information on job cuts was not given. The company announced that it plans an overall reduction of 11,000 out of 79,000 jobs worldwide. Until 2015, the company will save Euro 1.5 bn in annual costs.

UPDATE 24-05-2012: Eon specified some of its restructuring plans. Its sections for accounting and personnel matters will be centralized in Berlin, Germany, and Cluj, Romania. 1,200 jobs, which are included in the previously announced 11,000 job cuts, will be cut in this section.
