Description

3Sun, a joint venture created by Enel Green Power, Sharp and STMicroelectronics, is to create 400 new jobs by the end of 2012.

In July 2011 the new 3Sun plant started, with the aim to manufacture innovative photovoltaic (PV) cells and panels. It is located in Catania (Sicily). A project financing - subscribed by the three companies and the Italian government - supported the plant's building. According to the 3Sun, the plant should produce 250 MW by the 2012, and 480 MW in the next years. With regards to the employment, the company will create 200 new jobs by the end of 2011 and further 200 new jobs by the end of 2012.

In June 2011 the company and the trade unions reached an agreement on the working time and the management of jobs' creation. According to the agreement, 3Sun should hire unemployed workers, with particular attention to workers who have already worked in STMs with temporary contracts. In July 2011 3Sun had around 50 employees.
