Description

Finnish software developer Digia has announced plans to cut up to 190 employees from its mobile solutions business as well as support services. The aim is to adapt the company's Mobile Solutions business to the significantly changed market situation.

Digia is starting mandatory negotiations with employee representatives on the proposed cuts. In total, jobs of 290 employees are subject to negotiations in all locations. This is the third round of negotiations in 2011. After previous rounds the company had announced 240 layoffs and closed two locations.

This round of negotiations was announced when the company reported disappointing second quarter results. Digia's main client has been mobile phone company Nokia, which is implementing a new strategy and reducing its workforce worldwide.

Updated, 29-09-2011: Digia has concluded these negotiations and announced redundancies of 170 employees in 4 locations. At the same time, it announced another round of possible restructuring.
