Description

The ministre de l'Économie, des Finances et de l'Emploi has announced 30,401 job cuts in 2012 as part of ongoing retrenchment in the public sector. The cuts announced are somewhat lower than those originally foreseen (33,000) as there will be a lower level of retirements from the public service in 2012. They nonetheless pursue the objective announced at the outset of the Sarkozy presidency to reduce public sector headcount by replacing only one in every two retiring public servants. The areas most affected are education (14,000 job losses), defence (7462 jobs) and functions under the responsibility of the Ministère De L'Intérieur (3,621 job) and Ministère Du Budget (2,870 jobs)
