Description
Medcenter Container Terminal (Mct) is to cut 467 jobs out of 1,067. Mct, located in the Gioia Tauro port, is one of the main maritime container terminals in the South Europe region. According to the company, the job cuts are mainly due to the decision taken by Maersk (the main customer of Mct) to change its routes, cancelling the Gioia Tauro terminal.
The trade unions severely reacted to the company's decision, demanding the involvement of national authorities in order to find solutions to reduce the negative effects on employment.
Mct belongs to the Contship Italian Group. Its core business is represented by maritime terminal activities and investments in container-related activities.
