Description

The meat processing company Rigas Miesnieks moved production activities from Riga to Jelgava as a result of the take over of Jelgavas galas kombinats. In the process 100 employees lost their job.

Rigas miesnieks, which belongs to the HK Scan group, acquired 90.85% of shares in Jelgavas galas kombinats in 2010. In line with the new business strategy, Rigas Miesnieks started to relocate its operations to Jelgava. Sales and logistics divisions of Rigas Miesnieks and Jelgavas Galas Kombinats were to merge by 1 September 2010.

In the next phase, production activities were to be transferred from Riga to Jelgava. The relocation was completed on 16 May 2011. As the result of merging two plants, and investments in machinery, the number of employed was adjusted. All Jelgavas Galas kombinats jobs were retained. The company offered to the employees at the Riga plant to be relocated to Jelgava, however not all of employees accepted the offer.
