Description
In December 2010, the management and works council of Manroland, a major manufacturer of printing machines, implemented a social plan which would cut 500 jobs and transfer 300 workers to a service company by 31 December 2012. Manroland employs a staff of about 2100. The job cuts will primarily hit the administration and shall involve 250 direct dismissals.
Manroland, which was a subsidiary of truck manufacturer MAN and is held by the investment company Allianz Capitals, has been affected by the rise of the internet and the decline of the printing market. Negotiations to merge with competititor Heidelberger Druck failed.
