Description
Motorcycle manufacturer Derbi has announced the relocation of production activities from Barcelona to other plants of the group Piaggio located in Italy. The move will result in the loss of 200 jobs. The decision is attributed to the need to rationalize production in Europe and improve efficiency.
Negotiations between the company management and the labour authorities of the Catalan Government (Generalitat) already took place and will continue over the next while. So far, the company has not initiated the formal redundancy procedure (Expediente de Regulación de Empleo), hence there is no information on when the job cuts will be implemented by.
UPDATE, 03/05/2011 - The company has presented a redudancy plan which will result in the loss of 220 jobs. The job cuts will be implemented between July 2011 and the end of the year.
