Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 17 January 2011, Animex, a meat product producer, announced plans to close a poultry slaughterhouse line in its unit in D?bica. From 200 to 280 jobs will be lost due to the closure of the slaughterhouse line. The company will implement the collective dismissal programme by the end of March 2011. Andrzej Pawelczak, a public relations officer of Animex, said the dismissals will be consulted with trade unions and some of the redundant workers might be hired in company's unit in Opole (factsheet id :17201).
The company was founded in 1951 as a state-owned enterprise, but in 1999 it became a part of Smithfiled Group, a global food company. Animex also cooperates with the Poviat Employment Agency.
