Description

On 25 January 2011, Czech postal company Česká pošta announced its cost-saving restructuring plan which envisaged the loss of between 1,500 and 1,700 jobs throughout 2011. The company planned to restrict service delivery to 1,500 branches (mainly in rural areas) out of a total of 3,000 across the Czech Republic.

UPDATE - 8 April 2011: the company announced that it intends to dismiss over 1,800 employees by the end of 2011. Trade unions are against the restructuring as announced. Restructuring measures are related to the fact that a state-owned enterprise is to be transformed into a joint-stock company before 2013 when liberalization of postal services occurs. The Czech Post, which is one of the biggest employers in the country, employs 35,000 people.
