Description

Hull City Council has announced their intention to cut 1400 employees in the next 18 months. The council has cited the £50m cut in government funding as the reason for the cuts. Over 1,100 workers have expressed an interest in voluntary redundancy, and of those 100 have already left the council. A further 312 vacant posts are to be reviewed.

UPDATE 25.2.11

Plans for 1400 posts to be made redundant have been confirmed by Hull City Council.  Trade union Unison has said that the job losses are avoidable and that further demonstrations will go ahead.
