Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Czech energy giant CEZ announced a restructuring plan resulting in some 300 job cuts starting from 1 April 2011. Accountants from regional departments will make up the majority of the dismissed personnel, because CEZ plans to centralise accounting activities in the city of Ostrava. The company is to offer the dismissed workers consulting services and retraining courses, amounting to CZK 8,000 (EUR 320) per person. CEZ group is one of the largest employers in the Czech Republic. The firm currently employs some 20,000 people and a further 13,000 abroad.
