On 22th December, the management of the national train company SNCF announced that it intends to cut 1,850 positions in 2011 (equating to 1,400 FTEs, representing 0.9% of the workforce). In previous years the company made larger reductions in its workforce of between 1.2% and 2.6%. The company now expects 6,350 workers to leave the company and 4,500 to join. Last October, SNCF announced that it had recruited 3,200 employees in 2010 while, in the same period, 6,000 employees left the company through retirement.
