Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On December 15th, the management of the Swedish group Electrolux (51000 employees globally) announced its intention to cut 800 jobs in the EU (no precise location). In addition, on December 14th, Electrolux announced the closure, in 2013, of a plant in Canada (1300 employees). In terms of the EU, Electrolux management explained there will be no plant closures and that the restructuring will start gradually from January 2011 and be completed by the last quarter of 2012.
