Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Government of Salzburg province is to cut 140 of its currently 2389 public service posts until the end of 2011 due to an austerity drive. Mr Mueller, director of the Court of Auditors in Salzburg, warned that without taking countermeasures, the financial liabilities of the province would double by the end of 2013. In 2009, the province made new debts for the first time since almost a decade. In 2009, the debt increased by EUR 55 million, in 2010 it will increase by EUR 130 million and in 2011 by EUR 136 million. In order to reduce personnel costs, 140 jobs will be made redundant in 2010 and 2011. Furthermore, wage increases for 2010 will be forgone for civil servants.
