Description
State-owned company Bulgarian Posts EAD announced plans to close a number of post offices across the country with the loss of between 1,000 and 3,000 jobs.
During an interview with Yantra Dnes, Dejan Daneshki, CEO of Bulgarian Posts EAD, said that the restructuring, starting in June 2010, is aimed at avoiding the strong decentralization of Post. Daneshki also said that the restructuring will be completed by 1 April 2011. So far, around 1,000 workers have been dismissed.
According to the Telecommunications Act all post offices in villages with fewer than 800 inhabitants will be closed. Five major regions - Plovdiv, Pleven, Varna, Bourgas and Sofia - will manage all post offices.
