Description
Pôle Emploi, the French public employment service, announced on 4 November that it will cut 1800 jobs in 2011, (1500 fixed term posts and 300 permanent posts), which, according to the management, will contribute to reducing the public deficit. The cuts will be achieved by the non replacement of 1500 workers on fixed term posts through natural wastage of 300 permanent positions. The union representatives on the board of Pôle Emploi have declared this decision as "premature" (CFDT) and "counterproductive" (CFTC).
