Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 14 October 2010 the Swedish Armed Forces announced 418 staff members will be made redundant due to new employment regulations. The Swedish Armed Forces have introduced an obligation for all staff to sign up for international duty. If an employee does not respond to this demand or choses to say no, he or she will be made redundant. All staff of the Swedish Armed Forces who had not fulfilled their international work obligation were asked on 20 September 2010 if they wanted to re-regulate their employment. As a result, 115 regular officers and 303 civilian employees (a total of 418 employees) will be dismissed starting 31 October 2010. Those who cannot be replaced immediately have been transferred to transitional organizations until replacements are found.
