Description

Reading's largest employer, the Royal Berkshire Hospital, has announced it will cut up to 600 jobs by 2015 as part of a plan to save £60m, despite the fact that funding for the NHS as a whole is being ring-fenced. Chief executive Edward Donald said the majority of the cuts would come from backroom posts, including human resources, not frone-line staff. Alistair Maclean, from the Independent Democratic Union (IDU) said that the cuts will have a "devastating impact on health service in Berkshire. There is a myth that we can make savings without affecting front-line staff."
