Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dairy producer Milko has announced that it will close its plants in Karlstad and Sundsvall before the end of the first quarter of 2011. The closure will see all 173 employees leaving.
During the recent past, competition on the Swedish dairy market has increased and profit margins have been pressured down to a minimum. The reason behind the closure is t that the society cannot pay competitively sustainable prices to its farmers. As a result, costs have to be cut in order to keep the farmers from choosing rival companies.
Milko is a co-operative society owned by around 800 dairy farmers in mid-western Sweden. Production will most likely be moved to Milko's plants in Östersund, Grådö and Falköping. Milko has an annual turnover of 2.6 billion SEK (274 million EURO).
