Description
Blackpool Council is to cut 200 jobs due to government funding cuts. The council needs to make savings of £3m, and the cuts are likely to affect services that help people back into work, as these receive Area Based Grants in the area. Tory council leader Peter Callow described the news as "one of the worst days of my life... They are dedicated staff, who are doing all they can for Blackpool and the people we serve, and for me to be in this position is heartbreaking." No information was given on the number currently employed by the council, or when the time line for the job losses.
