Family run publisher DC Thomson and Co Ltd is to close it's Dundee print works with the loss of 350 jobs. Comics such as The Beano, and books, are produced at the site. The company, which also has offices in Glasgow, Manchester and London, has said that its newspaper business will not be affected; titles such as the Sunday Post and the Evening Telegraph are produced at a separate location in the city. A spokesman said that the cuts were necessary to ensure a strong future for the company, and that the economic downturn was responsible; and 90 day consultation period with affected staff has begun. Dundee city council leader Ken Guild said: "This news will be a terrible blow for individuals and their families and I will be contacting the Scottish government to ensure that whatever assistance is available is provided to help find other employment or training." No timescale was given for the closure.
