Description
The board of directors of the Brussels-based Vlaamse Radio-en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT), announced 279 job cuts by the end of 2010. The decision has motivated by the need to cut costs - 65 million euro have to be saved for the next year.
According to VRT, there will be no direct dismissals but only voluntary redundancies and 90 workers already accepted to leave. In addition to the job cuts, the company intends to save costs by limiting the extent of planned job creation. According to trade unions, the restructuring plan is "unacceptable"; they argue that "it is impossible to do the same amount of work with 279 people less."
