Royal Dutch Shell plc announced on 16 March 2010 that it intended to make 2,000 job reductions by the end of 2011 as part of a programme to reduce costs by $1 billion in 2010 and to improve operating performance. The cuts are likely to be across a range of countries, although no further details are at present available. Chief Executive Peter Voser said that Shell had been disadvantaged recently due to its higher exposure to refining than its competitors.
